Cleveland Orchestra shows off operatic muscle in Wagner program

Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” may be in for royal treatment by the Cleveland Orchestra in March, but another operatic heavyweight, Wagner, held sway at Severance Hall last week.
Delving into a realm as vast as Mozart’s, music director Franz Welser-Most took listeners on a brisk but engrossing tour of Wagner in an unusual program made up almost entirely of operatic orchestral music.
