On Tuesday night, Essence Magazine honored singer Janelle Monae at Playhouse in Hollywood and Eric Benet was disinvited once Prince was expected as a special guest. Organizers believed it was because Prince didn’t want to be in the company of his ex.
We told you earlier that Eric was marrying Prince’s ex, Manuela, whom he divorced after five years in 2006. At the time, Prince’s lawyer, Patrick Cousins, told People magazine: “This isn’t something that he wanted . . . He didn’t countersue. He is just trying to get it resolved.”
Eric started dating Manuela in November and proposed to her by singing a song he’d written, “Never Want to Live Without You.”
I can’t blame Prince. I don’t think I’d want to sit in a room with my ex and their new boo either.
