Hair stylist Johnny Wright, whose clients include fitness-conscious first lady Michelle Obama, offers these tips:
Wash sparingly. Regardless of your ethnicity, wash your locks no more than every other day (and no less than once a week).
Wrap it up. Before breaking a sweat, African-American women can wrap or roller-set their hair as they would at night, then secure it with a scarf. Let the hair dry completely before taking it down. If you’re in a hurry, run a blow-dryer over the scarf.
Give it time. Plan your post-workout schedule to allow for a shower and hair care.
Use the right products. Find sprays, gels, serums, etc. that are made for your hair type.
