President Barack Obama was able to avoid a government shutdown by striking a deal with with Speaker of the House John Boehner and House Republicans right before the deadline. President Obama said the shut down was avoided because “Americans of different beliefs came together.” An historic agreement reached late Friday night would cut about $38 billion in spending, Obama says some of the cuts will be painful but the White House protected its priority projects.
