region Wednesday night caused serious damage in some locations, including downed trees, damaged roofs and flooding.

Thousands of residents lost power, and some schools closed today as communities look to clean up the mess. By Thursday morning, power had been restored to most of the region.

One of the hardest hit areas was Fairlawn, as high winds ripped the roof off the Fairlawn Lutheran Church on West Market Street. The roof flew off the building and landed on a car in the parking lot. During the storm, the car was blown around the parking lot by the high winds.

In Monroeville, viewers snapped photos and took video of a tornado that touched down in the region. A barn in the area was destroyed, likely as a result of that tornado.

In Leroy Township, SR 86 was closed between Carter Road and Brooman Road because of a large tree covering the highway, according to ODOT.

In Madison Township, U.S. 20 closed at McMackin Road because of fallen power lines, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
