CLEVELAND – The judge handling the case of the Cleveland man accused of killing 11 women has denied a last-ditch effort by the defense to delay the trial.
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Dick Ambrose heard the motion during a final pre-trial hearing on Wednesday.
The trial of 51-year-old Anthony Sowell is set to begin Monday, June 6. The defense had asked again for a delay to allow more time to prepare. Prosecutors opposed any delay.
Sowell has pleaded not guilty and could face the death penalty if convicted.
The bodies of the women were found in an around Sowell’s Imperial Avenue home on the city’s east side in 2009.
