It’s probably not his first choice for a birthday present, but Congress could approve a debt ceiling agreement President Barack Obama and congressional leaders support.

Obama’s birthday is this coming Thursday, when he hits the big 5-0.

He says the partisan and protracted tussle has been “taking up all the oxygen in the room.”

Eleventh hour voting and negotiations have threatened to force him to skip his own party, a pair of birthday fundraisers planned in his Chicago hometown on Wednesday. One event features musical performances by Chicago natives Herbie Hancock and Jennifer Hudson.

Obama says his job has made him “a little grayer” but that he feels good. And he says the first lady still thinks he’s “cute.”
