CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

A west side woman escaped an arson fire thanks to some quick thinking neighbors and a pet.

The fire started around 2:00 AM at a home on W. 41st and Hyde.

Neighbors heard Judy Schmidt’s dog barking, saw her home in flames and pounded on the door to wake her up.

Thanks to those neighbors and the dog, Schmidt is okay but she lost a bird in the flames.

“When I got up, all I seen was red flame in my front room. Couldn’t get to my bird, lost my cockatiel I had for 20 years,” said Judy Schmidt.

She tells us someone set her house on fire.
