President Obama went head to head with the NFL’s opening day game and won.

Nielsen says 31.4 million people watched his 7pm speech while over 27.2 million who tuned in to the NFL opener 90 minutes later.

Fox News viewers led the cable networks with 3.4 million viewers, ahead of CNN (1.8 million) and MSNBC (1.6 million).
The president’s numbers are down from the 42.8 million who watched his State of the Union speech in January and the 56.5 million who watched him announced the death of Osama bin Laden.
