CLEVELAND – A 17-year-old was killed and an 11-year-old was severely injured during a shooting on Cleveland’s west side Wednesday evening.

The incident happened in the 3100 block of West 73rd Street just after 6 p.m. Cleveland police Sgt. Sammy Morris said officers were first called to the scene for a large fight and gunshots.

Officers quickly discovered a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound to the chest in front of a nearby house. Police said that just a few blocks away, on Clark Avenue, officers found the second victim: an 11-year-old girl, who had been shot in the head.

Both victims were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where the male victim died as a result of his injuries. According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office, the teen was identified as Randall Smith, of Cleveland.
