LORAIN, Ohio – A 52-year-old northeast Ohio woman is facing charges after deputies say she harassed 911 dispatchers over the phone.

On Monday, a deputy stopped at Marlene Thomas’s home after her brother claimed she was harassing him over the phone. The deputy said she needed to stop or she’d be arrested.

“At that point she became very indignant, started yelling some obscenities at the officer and told the officer to leave,” said Capt. Jim Drozowski of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy left and Thomas was left with a warning. Then came the phone calls.

Deputies said Thomas called 911 nine times to complain about her brother and the officer who came to her home. Two deputies then went to her home again to talk to her.

“She started provoking the officers. She grabbed the one officer’s tie and pulled it off of him. At that point they said they were placing her under arrest.” Drozdowski said she didn’t go quietly.

“She fell to the floor, tried to have the dog attack the deputies, which it didn’t. They finally got control of her, advised her she was going to jail.”

Drozdowski said Thomas was intoxicated and no one was hurt, but calling 911 repeatedly for non-emergenices is a crime and one she’ll face charges for.

“She persisted on calling 911 and tied up the line several different times for several different minutes which is something you just can’t do.”

Thomas posted bond and is out of jail. She did not respond to our request for a comment.
