Flirting 101: How to flirt your way to love

By Abiola Abrams

Flirting is a key skill in your bag of love tricks. We’ve all seen someone across the room who we want to get to know better. Maybe it’s his gorgeous face or the way his eyes light up but your night won’t be complete until you two have a conversation. Or maybe you’re on a first date and your heart is thumping so hard that you’re convinced that the other person can hear it. Either way, flirting can be your best friend.

Flirting is simply showing affection and interest in another person. Some of us are natural flirts. This love and sex columnist flirts with everyone from the postman to bus driver. The only time my natural flirting skills fall by the wayside is when I am really smitten with someone. Go figure. When we need to be “game on” the most is usually when our nerves can get in the way.

So what’s a girl to do when she’s crushing hard and can’t think of what to say next? Print this mini “Flirt 101 Cheat Sheet” and you’ll be good to go.

1. Say his name.

We human beings love the sound of our names. It’s mother’s milk to our ears. Namedrop heavily as long as the name you’re repeating is that of the person you’re with. Subtlety is key with the name play ladies, but make it clear that you enjoy saying his name as much as he will enjoy hearing it.

2. Talk to him about him.

Everyone’s favorite subject is themselves. It’s instinctual to want to tell a new person all about you, you, you. Switch it up. How often do we get to really talk about ourselves except on our facebook pages? Show interest by wanting to know all about him.

3. Be a good listener.

This goes hand in hand with asking him about himself. As he’s sharing his stories, don’t let your mind wander to the Knicks-Bulls game results or the latest “Real Housewives” drama. Listen so that if he again mentions his brother you know what the heck he’s talking about. Besides, being a great listener is just good manners.

The dating game may look like a shark tank from the outside but you don’t have to be a shark to play it. Be yourself and treat others like you want to be treated. Now, you’re ahead of the game..Original Story
