Tyler Perry is back with “Why Did I Get Married Too?” – and fortunately, he brought all the original actors and actresses from the first movie with him.
This time, things have changed dramatically for each of the four couples (including a change of partner as Sheila left her emotionally abusive husband behind for Sherriff Troy.) Along with the laughs, you can expect lots of drama as well as this time, the couples head to the Bahamas for their annual trip.
As a sequel to one of Perry’s most popular movies, 2007’s “Why Did I Get Married,” and heading into an Easter weekend with weakly reviewed movies as competition, you can expect that the already wealthy Perry will wake up with a huge smile once box office receipts are tallied up Sunday night.
We thought since the cast is so popular, we’d update you with what each actor and actress in the film is up to next.
TYLER PERRY – Terry
Perry’s two TV sitcoms, “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne,” continue to dominate ratings on TNT and TBS. His latest big-screen project is the film version of the 1975 Broadway play “For Colored Girls Who’ve Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” The play, originally written by Ntozake Shange as a choreopoem, features the voices of 20 African-American women identified only by the colors they wear, has been a staple of college campus productions and has experienced numerous revivals since its debut on Broadway. Shange herself starred in a television adaptation in 1982, which also featured the talents of the then little-known actresses Angela Bassett and Alfre Woodward.
Perry will write, produce and direct the film adaptation for Lion’s Gate and has announced that actresses Jurnee Smolett, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad and Macy Gray will star. SHARON LEAL – Dianne
After a stint on “Private Practice,” Black/Filipino actress Leal has two movies coming down the pike. “Little Murder,” starring Josh Lucas and Terrance Howard, is set in post-Katrina New Orleans. Lucas is an alcoholic cop who gets a chance to redeem himself when the ghost of a murdered cellist helps him find her killer. Leal plays the friend of the dead cellist. The film is due out later this year. In “Redemption,” Leal stars with Vanessa Williams of “Soul Food” fame, Micheal Masden, Las Alonso and Louis Gossett Jr., as the love interest in a drama about MMA fighters who are childhood friends. It’s due out in 2011.
TASHA SMITH – Angela
Smith is working on several upcoming projects, including “Something Like a Business,” a comedy film penned by Russ Parr that also stars Earthquake, Kym Whitley, Clifton Powell and J. Anthony Brown – so we can expect that to be hilarious. “Pastor Brown” unites former “Soul Food” cast members Rockmund Dunbar (who also directs) and Nicole Ari Parker, plus former “Wire” actor Michael B. Jordan (now on “Friday Night Lights.”) In the film, Salli Richardson Whitfield plays Jessica “Jessie” Brown, a preacher’s kid-turned-stripper who inherits her father’s church when he’s taken ill. Once back home and installed in the church, Brown faces challenges from her own family. It’s due out in 2010.
MICHAEL JAI WHITE – Marcus
White is currently working on a film called “Sucker Punch,” with Carla Gugino, Abbe Cornish, Jon Hamm and Scott Glenn, about a young girl whose evil stepfather commits her to an institution in the 1950’s.
