UPDATE: CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) – Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Shaun Rogers posted bail on Friday, and was released from jail, just hours after being charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
He spoke to the media as soon as he got out.
“First and foremost I want to apologize to all my family and friends for having to endure all the phone calls. Second of all I want to apologize to the Cleveland Browns and the community I’m truly remorseful,” said Rogers.
Rogers was arrested Thursday afternoon at Hopkins Airport after a loaded gun was discovered in his luggage. He told officers he forgot the .45 was in the bag.
“By no means did I intend or willingly or knowingly take a firearm into the airport that’s not something I would do,” Shaun Rogers.
“It was not his intent to pull a stunt like that,” said Defense Attorney Pat D’Angelo.”This was a simple oversight on his part and he is tremendously upset by it and sorry for any pain it has caused anyone. He wanted me to acknowledge and apologize to his teammates, the Browns organization and the Lerner family. The city of Cleveland has been great to him for the two years that he’s been here and he does not take this matter lightly and he wants to extend his apologies to everyone concerned.”
Rogers does have a permit for a concealed weapon in the state of Michigan, but not Ohio.
“I’ve been traveling back and forth to MI trying to rent my house out to unfortunately Corey Williams that got traded. I still own a home out there and I’ve been traveling back and forth. Naturally I pack my gun having a concealed handgun permit Unfortunately I was just late to the airport not giving it much thought and not making sure searching the gun was properly put away and so and I was off to the airport not by any means knowing what was in there.”
“He knows he’s not above the law or better than anyone else,” stated D’Angelo.
The team released this statement concerning Rogers arrest Thursday afternoon:
“We are aware of what transpired with Shaun Rogers. We will continue to gather additional information, and until the legal process has taken its course, we will reserve any further comment.”

The FBI reviewed the case and it will be handled by county.
Cuyahoga County prosecutors say punishment for Rogers could range from a first offenders program with his record wiped clean or up to five years in prison.
