Listen Live WZAK Cleveland

Though Michelle Obama says she dreams of being Beyonce, it hasn’t stopped her from doing what she does best.

To promote her new book “American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America,”  the First Lady spoke about the garden initiative she embedded in 2009 when she planted a fruit and vegetable garden on the White House lawn, the first of its kind since Eleanor Roosevelt’s victory garden in the 1940s.

You Go Girl! Michelle Obama Releases New Book On White House Garden

Mrs. Obama appeared on Good Morning America with students from PS 102 and PS 107 in Brooklyn, admitting she didn’t even know if she could touch the front lawn. “I thought wouldn’t it be amazing to plant a vegetable garden in the White House but I had no idea whether you could dig up some dirt in the South Lawn and actually plant anything,” she said.

First Lady Michelle Obama extends heartfelt “Thank You” to volunteers and supporters in Cleveland.

She recalled digging up dirt with the kids and how far they’ve come since then. “We now have more than 1,100 square feet of vegetables growing and we’ve had hundreds of kids helping us harvest and plant and it’s just been more than I could ever imagine.” Proceeds from her gardening book will benefit the Natural Park Foundation.
