Lauryn Hill Showcases “Black Rage” During Dallas Performance [VIDEO]

Uncle Sam may be on her back for her tax debt, but that’s not going to hinder Ms. Lauryn Hill’s creativity. The New Jersey native hit the road with Nas for the Life is Good/Black Rage tour, and during a stop in Dallas last night , she debuted her “Black Rage.”

The piece is about racial inequality. Much like her MTV Unplugged session and the flows heard on The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, the mother of six still has a love for spoken word:

Black rage is founded who fed us self-hatred. Lies and abuse, while we waited and waited. Spiritual treason this grid and its cages, black rage is founded on these kinds of things. Black rage is founded on drain and drainin,’ threatening your freedom  to stop your complaining. Poising your water, while they say its raining. Then call you mad for complaining complaining. Old tongue bureaucracy drugging the youth, Black rage is founded on blocking the truth.

Eager to consume any, and everything she throws out, the crowd responded with cheers— even if they may not have been able to comprehend the inner workings of her mind.
