BAY VILLAGE, OH (WOIO) –

A Bay Village family can deal with their house being crushed by a huge oak tree, they are just thankful their young son is alive.

Tuesday morning, at the height of Super Storm Sandy, the huge tree crashed into the front of the East Oakland Street home of Kyle and Meg Frantz.  Kyle had heard the warnings and made the decision that the family would sleep downstairs instead of in their upstairs bedrooms.  Meg, pointing to their son Wyatt’s destroyed bedroom, said, “His room is right there. If we had been upstairs he would have been killed, so thank God my husband had the premonition to sleep downstairs.”

The family safe, the memory of what happened early Tuesday morning will be hard to shake. It was about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, “A huge crash like a bomb went off. I said, Oh, my God that’s the tree and then another crash as the chimney fell, and I saw the back of the house cave in and I said we have to get out.”

They did get out. Now, their home must be rebuilt and that will most likely take months.  They aren’t about to complain.
