In 1996, Claiborne was presented with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, an annual achievement given by ESPN at the ESPY Awards.
Her biography is told in the film entitled “The Loretta Claiborne Story” by Walt Disney Productions and the book “In Her Stride”.
Clairbone has told press that her motto is, “God is my strength and Special Olympics is my joy.”
