*As moviegoers gear up to watch this year’s Academy Awards, Entertainment Weekly is setting the stage for the event with Oscar hopefuls Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong’o gracing the cover.
In the issue, the pair discuss the never-ending award season, what they love most about their jobs and their hopes for the future.
“In many ways, me being on the scene is doing for little girls everywhere what Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg did for me,” Nyong’o said while discussing her career aspirations moving forward. “My world exploded by them being on screen. Hopefully I will inspire and be meaningful to other people. But I can’t take on other people’s dreams for me. I can only dream for myself.”
Nyongo, a newcomer on the Oscar scene, is nominated for best actress in a supporting role for her role as Patsey in “12 Years a Slave.” The Oscars are familiar ground for Blanchett, who has emerged as a frontrunner for best actress in a leadingrole for her playing a a fallen socialite in “Blue Jasmine.”
Despite the praise she’s received over the years, Blanchette admits having a fraught relationship with her chosen profession.
“I’m constantly running away from acting,” said Blanchette. “I have to get seduced back into it each time.”
In addition to Blanchett and Nyong, this week’s Entertainment Weekly will continue spotlighting the Oscars with predictions from Anthony Breznican, details on how five Academy members marked their own ballots and detailed plans of the night from the Oscar producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
The 86th Academy Awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will air live March 2 on ABC.
