CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –
On Thursday, various events took place around Cleveland to remember a Ferguson, MO teenager who was killed by police earlier this month.
Witnesses say the 18-year-old was unarmed and his hands were in the air when a police officer shot him to death last Saturday. Police say Brown attacked the officer and tried to take his gun. So far, officials have declined to release the officer’s name for his safety.
Thursday marks day number five of the unrest in the St. Louis suburb. It was supposed to be the first day of school, but classes have been postponed until Monday.
Ceremonies are expected for a National Moment of Silence in more than 50 cities across 30 states, according to organizers. Cleveland Police patrolled the edge of the protests in Cleveland.
