Morgan Freeman will take on a role in the upcoming sequel to Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted.”

The actor has signed on to play a civil rights lawyer in “Ted 2,” reports Variety. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but according to the publication, Ted calls upon Freeman’s character after he becomes entangled in tricky legal issues.

MacFarlane – who is again writing, directing and voicing the character in the sequel – has been looking to land Freeman since announcing the project. Currently shooting in Boston, the movie sees Mark Wahlberg reprising his role as Ted’s buddy, though Amanda Seyfried takes over from Mila Kunis as the primary love interest.

The original movie told the story of John Bennett, a Boston citizen whose childhood wish to bring his teddy bear to life comes true. However, Ted begins to prevent John from moving on with his adult life. It made $549 million worldwide, including $218 million at the U.S box office. The sequel is set for June 26, 2015.

Freeman was most recently seen in Luc Besson’s well-received “Lucy” and is about to begin work on the action crime-thriller “London Has Fallen,” with Gerard Butler, Angela Bassett and Aaron Eckhart. He also has action-adventure “Last Knights” ready for release as well as the history documentary “We the People.”
