CLEVELAND – SWAT and police are at the scene of an overnight officer-involved shooting on the east side of Cleveland.

The shooting happened around 5 a.m. Saturday in the area of Ottawa Avenue and E. 71st Street, not far from Harvard Avenue.

NewsChannel5 was told that an officer was shot in the chest and is listed in stable condition at the hospital. Police said luckily the officer was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time of the shooting.

When NewsChannel5 arrived on scene, several people were in handcuffs.

Police also told NewsChannel5 that the suspect had been apprehended.

This is the second officer-involved shooting that has occurred on Cleveland’s east side in less than 12 hours. The first incident happened in the 3300 block of E. 146 Street near Kinsman.
