Nobody asked for this. Producer Rodney Jerkins revealed that he is working on a remake of Brandy and Monica’s classic song “The Boy is Mine” with — are you ready? — Ariana Grande and Jessie J.
In an interview with Hits Daily Double, Jerkins said he is working on a special 20th-anniversary project with original songs and remakes, like “The Boy is Mine” as well as “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay” which will be covered by British crooner, Sam Smith.
The 1998 song, co-written by Jerkins, was a certifiable hit. It got Brandy and Monica a Grammy award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
We’re totally not sure if this remake is necessary (we’re leaning towards no), but these people aren’t here for it, either.
For the better memories, listen to the song below.
