Al Roker (pictured), the nation’s most-beloved weatherman, is trying to break the  Guinness World Record of uninterrupted weather broadcasting for at least 34 hours straight, which he has nicknamed the “Rokerthon.”

Why is the TV personality trying to go the mile weather wise?

The stunt was conjured up by Roker in order to raise money for the United Service Organizations (USO) through the crowdsourcing site CrowdRise.

The USO is a 73-year-old nonprofit organization that provides programs, services, and live entertainment to United States troops and their families.

At press time, Roker’s Rokerthon, which began at 10 p.m., EST on Wednesday night, has raised $28,244.

Roker is also trying to surpass the world record of Norwegian meteorologist Eli Kari Gjengedal who is currently the title holder, after presenting the weather for a grueling 33 hours last month.
