One woman is going to spend the rest of her life in prison for taking some cues from the military when punishing her kids.

While waterboarding has been outlawed by the government, Lakechia Schonta Stanley admitted that she used the practice alongside beatings to discipline her children. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the confession led to a judge sentencing her to 78 years in prison.

Lakechia was up on 34 felonies charges, including assault and the endangering the welfare of a child, for what prosecutors called the systematic torture of her kids. She was reported in October 2011 after her then 10-year-old daughter complained of pain in her arm. The young lady later explained that her mother had beaten her with a bat because she took too long to clean the kitchen. She also reported her mom for beating her younger sister after not showering quickly enough.

The librarian found it alarming that parts of the child’s arm were cold and hard, so they took her to the hospital. Doctors determined that she was suffering from restricted blood supply due to the severity of the beatings she’d received.

Getting hit with a bat was only the tip of the iceberg in this case as the girl revealed that she and her two siblings also been waterboarded, whipped with an extension cord and made to stand in scalding hot or freezing cold showers.

Things got no easier while dealing with their father, who pleaded guilty to 42 similar charges last year. With both of their parents in custody, it’s unclear where the children are staying at this time.
