Yes, the Soul Train Awards aired last night and two things were clear – Devante Swing of Jodeci needs a new hairdresser and Missy Elliott needs to get back into the game. Those were just two of the takeaways of the show, which aired Sunday night on BET and Centric after being taped a few weeks ago. Wendy Williams hosted and made few flubs, thankfully.

Iconic 80’s band Kool and the Gang finally got their props as one of the most sampled groups in hip-hop. Performances by vocalists like Stephanie Mills, KEM and Ledisi boosted the night’s mostly positive social media reviews. (Nowadays the only ones that count.)

Nominee Beyonce didn’t attend, but hey, presenter Michelle Williams said she’s good for it if Beyonce wants to drop by and pick up her award for Album of The Year. Winner Chris Brown, who won Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year with “Loyal” showed once again, that despite his issues, he can rock a stage.
