CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –  The Cleveland Browns traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on Cam Newton and the Panthers. Newton is making his first start since getting in a car accident two weeks ago where he injured his back. This is the second start for rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel.

This game will feature two Heisman award winners, Cam Newton in 2010, and Johnny Manziel in 2012.

The game started with the Panthers moving the ball well, however could not turn it into points. Graham Gano would miss a 49-yard field goal. The Browns would get a 3-and-out on their first drive.

On the following possession the Panthers would drive into the Red zone but would have to settle for three. Gano would convert on a 23-yard field goal. Panthers take a 3-0 lead.

Late in the first quarter the Browns get the ball moving, the first quarter would come to an end with a 3-0 lead in favor of Carolina. The Browns have only had eight offensive plays at this point.

The Browns would threaten in Carolina territory, Josh Gordon would make a first down catch, but Panthers head coach Ron Rivera would challenge the catch and would be correct, the play would be overturned and the Browns are forced to attempt a 43-yard field goal, Garrett Hartley would hit his first field goal as a Cleveland Brown. Browns tie the game 3-3.

The Panthers would milk a lot of the clock in the second quarter because the Browns could not stop Newton on multiple third downs. With two minutes left in the half Cam Newton would run off a play fake for a 2-yard touchdown. Panthers take a 10-3 lead.

Something Browns fans did not want to see on the following possession, Johnny Manziel went down with a hamstring injury, in comes Brian Hoyer. Gordon would make a nice catch but it would be called back by a penalty and the Browns could not turn it into anything. Halftime in Charlotte, 10-3 in favor of the Panthers.
