In addition to providing a seriously ill patient with care and comfort, hospice services often extend to his or her family members and friends — involving and training them in giving care, and providing breaks and counseling services to those who need them.

How Hospice Works

A member of the hospice’s nursing staff will ask for initial information on the phone and then visit the patient in order to make a detailed assessment of their condition.

During this visit, the hospice will:

  • assess the patient’s eligibility for hospice,
  • evaluate the individual’s need for pain and symptom management,
  • counsel the individual with respect to end-of-life issues and care options, and
  • advise the individual regarding advanced care planning.
  • The hospice will then discuss with you whether hospice care is the most appropriate choice for you or your loved one.

It is still not clear what happened to her or why. Georgia police have been investigating but have not announced their findings nor brought charges against anyone.

Her father, Bobby Brown, and members of his family have said at various times that she was awake or that she was getting better. Her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, with whom she shared her home, has begged to see her and been refused by her family.

Her grandmother, gospel great Cissy Houston, has been candid from the beginning about her condition not improving. She said in April that doctors told her Bobbi Kristina suffered “global and irreversible brain damage” and that she remained unresponsive.
