In her 2014 appearance of OWN’s “Where Are They Now?” series, the former child star shocked many with her unorthodox statements about race and ethnicity.

“I’m an American, I’m not an African-American,” Symoné boldly said at the time.

“Oh girl, you’re going to set Twitter on fire,” a shocked Winfrey replied. Now, the 29-year-old is admitting that Oprah was right. The backlash from black Twitter users has remained constant over the last several months with no signs of backing down any time soon.

She initially responded to the backlash by stating:

“I never said I wasn’t black. I want to make that very clear. I said, I am not African-American. I never expected my personal beliefs and comments to spark such emotion in people. I think it is only positive when we can openly discuss race and being labeled in America.”

Since being dogged by Black Twitter, Raven has had time to reflect and come to accept that Oprah was right.
