Classic American Crispy Fried Chicken

Mmmmm! Don’t lie and say you never liked the chicken coming out of the bucket from KFC. You may have also like Popeye’s chicken, but KFC still has a great taste with their secret 11-herbs and spices. Well, the secret’s out! Here’s how to make it just like the restaurant but with less calories, less fat, less sodium and no MSG!

Ingredients:

1 whole chicken (2 breasts, 2 thighs, 2 drumsticks, 2 wings)

2 egg whites

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon kosher salt

Spice Mix:

1 teaspoon ground oregano

1 teaspoon chilli powder

1 teaspoon ground sage

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried marjoram

1 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon onion salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions:

It’s said that the head of the oil in KFC’s kitchen is the main factor to get the KFC taste, so we did some testing and came up with a few things to make sure it tastes just like it, only healthier.

Combine spice mix with flour, brown sugar and salt.

Dip chicken pieces in egg whites to lightly coat them, then transfer to flour mixture. Turn a few times and make sure the flour mix is really stuck to the chicken. Do it a second time, then repeat with all the chicken pieces.

Let chicken pieces rest for 5 minutes so crust has a chance to dry a bit.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

After the chicken has rested, spray each piece of chicken totally with olive oil cooking spray (vegetable oil spray will also work).

Lay on a cookie sheet about 2 inches apart and bake for 40-45 minutes until brown and crispy.
