Caught on camera: Unarmed man shot by police in FL – Cleveland 19 News Cleveland, OH
NORTH MIAMI, FL (WSVN/CNN) – A Florida mental health professional who was trying to get an upset autistic patient to return to a group home was shot by police this week.
Video shows Charles Kinsey lying in the middle of the road with his hands in the air.
North Miami police have rifles pointed at him.
He tries to tell them he’s a therapist trying to help a confused autistic man who ran away from a group home.
“All he has is a toy truck. A toy truck. I am a behavior therapist at a group home,” Kinsey can be heard saying.
Kinsey recalls the moments before he got shot.
“When I went to the ground, I went to the ground with my hands up. And I am laying there, just like this, telling them again, there is no need for firearms. He is autistic. He has a toy truck in his hand,” Kinsey said.
In the video, Kinsey pleads with officers to back down, and also tries to calm down his patient, telling him to be still and lie on his stomach.
The incident goes on for minutes.
And then – Kinsey says out of nowhere – a North Miami police officer shoots him.
