The Cavs may be off for a week after Sunday’s sweep of the Pacers, but they landed a big victory Monday night.

In a 12-5 ‘super-majority’ vote, Cleveland City Council has approved plans to chip in millions of city dollars to the $140 million facelift project at Quicken Loans Arena.

This afternoon, the Cavs sweetened the deal to secure the fast-tracked super-majority.

The Cavs agreed to replace all basketball courts in city rec centers, and guarantee the city doesn’t lose money from their general fund in the deal.  They’re also donating monies from watch parties at The Q for local Habitat For Humanity projects.

Inside council chambers, the five members who voted against the funding wanted the Cavs to know this was a disheartening process.

“You made us beggars,” Councilman Mike Polensek said. “You made us beg for you to acknowledge what’s going on in our neighborhoods. I find that appalling.”
