On Aug. 10, Bird Scooters went through a trial run in the city of Cleveland, today that test comes to an end.

The company announced that they will discontinue operations in the City of Cleveland.

This announcement comes days after a rider was struck and killedon a scooter Saturday, Aug. 18.

To be clear, the woman that passed was not riding a Bird Scooter. The decision was made by the company voluntarily.

A Spokesperson for Bird said the following:

“We are voluntarily pausing our operations in Cleveland. However, we have had productive conversations with Councilman Kerry McCormack and community members, and are hopeful that we will be able to collaborate with the City on their permitting process so that Bird can be a reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation option for the community.”
