Snoop Dogg

via FirstLadyB:

Kirk Franklin sits down with Snoop Dogg to talk about their faith, and a whole lot more on the first episode of From Gangster To Gospel To Redemption, which premiered exclusively on BET.

In the first episode of the three part Youtube series, Kirk jokingly recalled the first time he met Snoop backstage at the  BET Soul Train Awards. Things turned serious as Snoop shared with Kirk how most West Coast rappers were brought up in Baptist churches.

“Baptist churches are the thing out here on the West Coast. This is where we learned how to perform. We learned how to act. We learned how to conduct ourselves. We learned how to read. We learned how to do all the things we do now professionally in rap,” Snoop shared with Kirk.

Kirk, who grew up in the church, said his influence was hip-hop artists like, Digable Planets, Eric B. & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and the Geto Boys

The rapper, who changed the game when he released a Gospel album,  shared his experience with catching the Holy Ghost. He shared that’s when he knew God was convicting him to do more right than wrong.  To take Him, along with his faith, to every destination he’d encounter in life—right, wrong, or indifferent. “So when I did decide to make wrong decisions, and join a gang, and sell drugs, I had God right there with me,” he said.
