The government shutdown has placed a burden on some Northeast Ohioans, who are currently out of a job as they wait to return to work.

In the meantime, some Northeast Ohio businesses have stepped up to offer aid to furloughed federal employees.

Here is a list of area businesses offering freebies, services and deals during the shutdown:

Airbnb

Airbnb is offering extra money to Ohio federal employees who host an experience or three nights in their home until March 18. Hosts can earn up to an additional $110. Learn more here.

Akron METRO

All federal employees with a valid ID can ride Akron METRO free starting Tuesday. This applies to all METRO services, including Northcoast Express, SCAT and Call-A-Bus.

Bearden’s

Bearden’s in Rocky River is offering a free burger and fries to all government employees with a valid ID from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 24.

Burntwood Tavern

Burntwood Tavern is offering a free meal to all government employees every Tuesday. The offer begins Jan. 22 and lasts through the shutdown.

Cleveland Museum of Natural History

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is offering free admission to government employees with a valid government ID.

Where: 1 Wade Oval Drive, Cleveland

Cleveland Zoo

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is offering free admission every Monday to government workers with a valid ID.
