After a month of drama, suspense, excitement, disappointment and pain, it happens this weekend. Yes, someone is going to win the World Cup! Spain and the Netherlands square off for the pride of their respective nations and the chance to become champions.

For those of you sweltering on the East Coast, the couch with a drink and a flat screen on Sunday to watch the match might be the best place to be – unless, of course, you can muster up the energy to make it to an air-conditioned movie theater or comedy show. Temps will remain in the 90s, so keep hydrated and cool.

Here’s a list of some “cool” things to catch this weekend.

ON TV:

All times listed are Eastern.

Friday, July 9

“Tavis Smiley,” midnight on PBS.

Singer Bettye Lavette, who sang at President Barack Obama’s inauguration, talks to the popular talk show host about her career.

“The Mo’Nique Show,” 11 p.m. on BET.

Big Daddy Kane, Chubb Rock and Dana Dane stop by to bring some old school hip-hop flavor to the Mo show.

Saturday, July 10

“Richard Pryor: I Ain’t Dead Yet &@*!,” midnight on Comedy Central.

A host of comics – including Dave Chappelle, D.L. Hughley, Wanda Sykes, Denis Leary, Jamie Foxx and Robert Townsend – pay tribute to the late comedian in this 2003 special.

Sunday, July 11

World Cup Championship, 1:30 p.m. on ABC

Spain makes its first-ever appearance in a World Cup final; the Netherlands hopes to win for the first time in their third try.

ONSCREEN:

“Predators,” starring Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, Alice Braga (R)

This updated sequel to the 1987 action hit makes up for the last few subpar ones.

“Despicable Me,” starring Steve Carrell, Jason Segal, Russell Brand (PG)

In Universal Pictures’ first attempt at 3-D/CGI animation, an evil dude is undone by a trio of orphaned girls.

ON SHELVES:

“Wanting It,” by Delilah Dawson. Two overworked people meet up, and things get even hotter when they go on an anonymous dating site without realizing they’ve already met.

“The Porn Star Guide to Great Sex,” by Mr. Marcus. The title says it all, right? Like his movies – for adults only – Mr. Marcus explores how to get creative in the bedroom, but also how to keep it creative — in and out of the bedroom.
