*The Miami Heat grabbed one of the most sought-after NBA free agents in recent memory, but ESPN walked away from LeBron James’ announcement special the big winner.

The so-called critics may not be happy with ESPN’s decision to telecast “The Decision,” but the show where LeBron James made his announcement as to where he’ll play next, is a ratings success.

“The Decision,” which aired at 9/8c on ESPN on Thursday, was the highest-rated program of the night, garnering a 7.3 overnight rating, according to the cable channel.

The hour-long special, during which James revealed he was leaving his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, for Miami, peaked between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. with a 9.6 rating.

“The Decision” is also ESPN’s highest rated non-NFL program, so far.

(Was it the best decision by Lebron/for Lebron? Stay tuned.)
