CLEVELAND — A Cuyahoga County jury Monday found Cortez Williamson, 22, of

Cleveland guilty of the Jan. 27 murder of a Maple Heights man in a bar.

Cuyahoga County assistant prosecutor Blaise Thomas said Williamson was convicted of murder, discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premise, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with evidence and having a weapon while under disability, all of which led to the death of 19-year-old Dexter McWhorter.About 2 a.m. on Jan. 27, Thomas said Williamson, a 6 foot, 6 inch man, pulled the pony tail hair extension off his 5-1 female date at Joe D’s Third World Lounge at Miles Avenue and East 135th Street. A fight ensued, and several people came to her aid. McWhorter was near them as a bystander.

Thomas said Williamson pulled a gun and fired several shots, one of which killed McWhorter. He later disposed of the gun.

Williamson will be sentenced at 10 a.m. Monday by Judge Dick Ambrose.
