The recent killing of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin has ignited a debate across the United States, and after Geraldo Rivera’s “hoodie” comments, celebrities have joined the cause by voicing their support for the late Martin and his family.

Last week Rivera brought spotlight to the hoodie detail of the incident when he tweeted , “His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman.”

Another tweet from Rivera the following day, read, “Justice will come to Zimmerman the Fla shooter-but I’m trying to save lives like Trayvon’s-Parents Alert: hoodies can get your kid killed.”

Entertainment blog Zap2it reported that music mogul Diddy and NBA stars LeBron James and Dwayne Wade posted photos showing their support.

Diddy sports a black hoodie and sunglasses while holding up a picture of the late Martin in a photo posted to Instagram .

James linked to a photo of him and his Miami Heat teammates all wearing hoodies. He added the hashtags #WeAreTrayvonMartin, #Hoodies, #Stereotyped, #WeWantJustice.

Director Spike Lee tweeted his outrage, writing, “Why Is George Zimmerman Still FREE?” In addition, Lee also posted a photo of his own son wearing a hoodie, E!Online reported.

In addition to the tweets and statements on social media, a petition is also making its rounds in support of arresting Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman.

“The View” co-host Sheri Shephard tweeted the link to the petition and Russell Simmons asked his followers to join the Facebook page , “Justice for Trayvon Martin.”

Funnyman Will Ferrell also took to his Twitter account to voice how he felt, Us Weekly reported. The actor and comedienne who is usually getting laughs, wrote , “I live n a country where a chick that threw flour on Kim Kardashian was arrested on site But the man who KILLED Trayvon Martin is still free.”
