CLEVELAND — The Cavs picked up forward Antawn Jamison, a two-time All-Star player who averages more than 20 points per game. But they lost “Z,” a player who has become a familiar face in Cleveland.

The Cavs traded Zydrunas Ilgauskas and this year’s first round pick to the Washington Wizards for Jamison and Sebastian Telfair from the L.A. Clippers. Experts said Jamison will fit perfectly into his roll as support for LeBron James. He’s a big point scorer who can hit from 3-point range.

As far as “Z” is concerned, he may be bought out by the Wizards and released (a financial decision for Washington), meaning the Cavs could scope him back up in 30 days — but that’s no guarantee.

The talks about trading for Amare Stoudemire in Phoenix never materialized. But experts said Jamison is the better fit for what the Cavs need — and that’s a championship basketball team.
