Still I Rise….
Whenever anyone is faced with adversity the picture people see in you, is what you do with that adversity. Our very own Kym Sellers was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis almost 20 years ago and instead of caving in to the diagnosis she chose to rise and embrace others in her community by creating The Kym Sellers Foundation. This year Heart And Soul Magazine chose to recognize her for her efforts by honoring her with their 2011 Heart And Soul Award at a ceremony this past weekend in Baltimore, Maryland. In attendance for this event was Boris Kodjoe and his wife Nicole Ari Parker, Vanessa A. Williams, Michael Baisden, Jawn Murray, Jeff Majors and numerous other celebrities. When it came time for Kym to be honored her presenter read her bio and the crowd listened in admiration, but when it came time for her to accept the award, Kym decided to show all her efforts and fight for others just like her and she arose from her wheel chair to bring the whole audience to their feet and the crowd exploded with cheers. With all eyes on her Kym delivered a speech that started of with in the words of Miss Sophia “All My Life I Had To Fight” and at that moment Kym Sellers won the admiration of everyone in that room. When asked after the awards show could Vanessa A. Williams come and take a picture with Kym her response was “Who you talking about Kym Sellers my inspiration!! Absolutely!!” and she told her fans “Yall gotta wait I’m going over here to take a picture with Kym Sellers”. Aja from Kindred The Family Soul said “God didn’t bring us here to perform, he brought us here to hear Kym”. Words can’t express what Kym did that night for Northeast Ohio, and with everyone’s prayers and support in the WZAK community which includes family, friends, Radio One Family, her faithful friends from The Kym Sellers Foundation and last but not least you the listners “Her Quiet Storm Family” she will continue “Living Strong Fighting Long Til MS Is Gone!!!
