LOS ANGELES – As expected, LeBron James, the Miami Heat, and the city of Cleveland were the butt of some jokes at Wednesday night’s ESPYs awards show.

Comedian Seth Meyers hosted the event, and he targeted the Heat for not winning an NBA title, and then joked about the Dallas Mavericks bringing the first championship to the city of Cleveland.

“Congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks for finally bringing an NBA Championship to Cleveland,” Meyers said during the opening monologue. “Cleveland fans really took a lot of pleasure in the Heat losing. Cleveland fans celebrating Miami losing is like a dude saying, ‘hey you know my ex-wife who left me, she and her new boyfriend are having an argument. I’m back!’”

Dallas took home plenty of hardware throughout the night, as they won the award for best team, Dirk Nowitzki won Best Male Athlete, and Rick Carlisle won best coach.

As far as LeBron goes, Meyers took his shots at “King James,” using the obligatory “LeBron only plays three quarters” approach.

“Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh refer to themselves as the ‘Big Three’ in honor of how many quarters they play.”

None of Miami’s stars showed up for the event, which is the second straight year that LeBron has skipped the ESPY’s.
