WILLOUGHBY, OH (WOIO) –

A robbery investigation is underway after a Willoughby convenience store clerk is found bound and bloodied by a customer.

It happened Saturday night just before midnight at the Convenient Food Mart on Ridge Road.

Officers learned that the 24-year-old clerk had been in the cooler area of the store preparing for close when three suspects entered the store. The suspects approached the clerk and began assaulting him. One suspect struck the clerk multiple times in the head with what appears to be a club or weapon similar to an axe handle.

The suspects forced the clerk to the cash register and later bound his hands behind his back with green landscape trimmer line. The suspects removed an undisclosed amount cash and fled around the west side of the building.

No vehicle was observed.

The clerk was transported to Hillcrest Hospital where he was treated and released.

The suspects were all wearing dark clothing and gloves. Two suspects wore hoods and masks while the third had an orange multi colored hat pulled down over his face.
