CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

A special Cuyahoga County Council meeting is scheduled for 4PM today.

Council will consider a proposal from Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald and a majority of Council members to continue mailing absentee voter applications to all active voters, despite efforts in Columbus to stop this popular convenience.

Last Monday, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted directed local boards of election to immediately stop mass mailing absentee voter applications. In response, Council is considering a proposal to have the county’s Public Works Department take charge of the mass mailing, done annually in Cuyahoga County.

FitzGerald believes Cuyahoga County’s tradition of mass mailing absentee ballot applications makes voting more convenient and reduces the length of lines at polling places on Election Day.
