CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

As the tenth anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks approaches, Cleveland Hopkins and Akron-Canton Airport will increase security presence throughout the terminal and airport campus.

“While there has not been any specific or creditable threats indicating any type of terror activity surrounding the 10th anniversary of 9-11, we felt it prudent to increase our security presence at the airport,” said Hopkins Airport Director Ricky Smith. “Security of our traveling and visiting public is our highest priority and as such we feel it is our responsibility to provide the safest environment when and where possible.”

Beginning Wednesday and through September 12th, the following security measures will be in place at Hopkins:

· Increased uniformed presence on the roadways, ticketing lobby, baggage claim and RTA level

· All three (3) Cleveland Police Department (CPD) TSA canine units will be active and visible

· Random vehicle inspection checkpoints will be in place on Airport Roadways

The Akron-Canton Airport says they will also have similar security measures in place on September 11th itself, but an airport spokesperson says it will not affect travelers. The increased security presence at Hopkins will remain in effect until September 12th.
