EUCLID, OH (WOIO) –

A bombshell with the investigation into missing money at the Euclid police department.

A final report says a veteran officer stole tens of thousands of dollars from his police department and his union.

19 Action News Reporter Ed Gallek just got the missing money report, in which Sheriffs Deputies found Sgt. Kevin Blakely acted alone and was to blame in the missing money probe.

Blakely killed himself in the middle of the investigation last April. During a meeting with supervisors, he suddenly reached for his police weapon and ended his life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Cuyahoga County Sheriffs Deputies found Blakely stole at least $40,000 in drug money that was seized by Euclid police. Investigators also found Blakely swindled more than $24,000 from the Euclid Police Union.

Blakely had been the treasurer of the union for many years.

The report says Sheriffs Deputies looked at bank records for other people in the police department, and everything comes back to Blakely.
