EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio – Hundreds of Northeast Ohioans flocked to East Cleveland on Friday to take part in a Cleveland holiday tradition, the 87th annual Nela Park holiday lighting display.

The 2011 display theme, “Merry & Bright,” featured nearly a half-million holiday lights. Design consultant Debbie George demonstrated the advances in LED technology to create bright, crisp and vibrant colors while also achieving energy efficiency.

Catherine Sieradzki, 6-year old daughter of GE Lighting product manager Ed Sieradzki, flipped the switch to light up the night sky with holiday colors.

The display featured a National Christmas tree replica that served as the centerpiece. Student Andrea Lane, with the guidance of GE Lighting Solutions employees, designed the acrylic sphere topper for the replica tree.

A replica of the 1950s Higbee Building was on display as bands of red, blue and green lights draped the front of one of GE’s buildings.

As a remembrance to the 10th anniversary of September 11, a 9/11 Tribute of Light was constructed. It featured a 20-foot tree with red, white and blue lights to honor the memory of those lost.

The holiday display will be on all day and night through New Year’s Day. Nela Park is located at 1975 Noble Road in East Cleveland.
