WESTLAKE, OH (WOIO) –

The 19-year-old mother who abandoned her sleeping baby boy while shoplifting in Crocker Park has surrendered to police.

Brettany Walton turned herself in to Westlake Police on Saturday at 11:15AM. Bond was set at $30,000 on the charges of Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors and Complicity to Theft.

She was transferred to the Cuyahoga County jail Tuesday morning to answer a felony Child Endangering Charge.

Police say Walton and two other teens were shoplifting at Crocker Park on November 26th while Walton’s 1-year-old son slept in his stroller.

Walton fled before cops arrived, leaving her young son behind.

Once police determined who the child belonged to, Walton was contacted to pick him up, but she refused to return and claim her child. The baby was then transported to St. John Medical Center for a check-up and was found to be fine.

Children’s Services was notified and helped locate the little boy’s grandmother. The grandmother came to the hospital and took the child home; she in is the process of trying to gain custody through the courts.

Walton was arrested in May by Garfield Heights Police for abandoning her infant while packing a gun. She also pled guilty to a number of charges including child endangering back in July.
