CLEVELAND – A group of teen inmates at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center set off the building’s sprinkler system over the weekend, authorities say.
Court administrator Marita Kavalec said the fire safety water sprinklers are tamper resistant, but not tamper proof.
No significant damage was done when the two sprinklers went off, but the incident did require some clean-up, Kavalec said. For the time being, the inmates in five of the six units are sleeping in a common area, instead of individual cells.
Charges against the teens involved are pending.
