CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

It’s been a deadly week in Cuyahoga County. Six people killed over the weekend, and the violence continued throughout the rest of the week.

Since Sunday, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has been hustling to get these cases investigated and closed.

Six bodies were brought in on Sunday alone.

“We certainly had a big uptick in violent deaths over the weekend and that continued into the beginning of the week” says Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Wilson of the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. The office is trying to keep up, but the violence continues.

“In the last week, we had nine homicide deaths.  If we continued on that trend for the entire year we would have between 450 and 500 homicides reported for Cleveland” says Dr. Gilson.

Nobody expects to see that many homicides, but whenever there is a spike in homicides the Medical Examiner’s Office has to step up. “It really stretches our staff and I have to really say… they responded exceptionally to the challenge…we just put all hands on deck and did what we had to get the job done” says Dr. Gilson.
